The other day when I was in Tokyo, I decided I would try a new type of post here on Speedhunters. I was actually remembering my first trip to Japan and just how excited I was to see random cars on the street, and though it might be kind of cool to show what kind of stuff you see "in the wild" on Japanese streets. If you guys like this sort of thing, let me know and I will do it more often. Events and races are great, but there is always something kind of special about seeing an a cool car on the street.
Anyways, when I was in Ginza I spotted this post-facelift S2000 with an aggressive set of Advan RGII's sitting at a traffic light. Don't think you the S2000 looks tiny compared to that Nissan Fuga sitting behind it?

The Smart Car has been available for quite a while in Japan and it's probably the only car out there that makes a kei cars look big. I'm far from an expert on Smart Cars, but this one looks to be one of the Brabus-tuned versions. Actually, from this angle the Smart looks fairly normal (at least by Japan standards), it's not until you see the side profile when you realize just how tiny these things are.

How about a quaint little cafe on Ginza sidestreet with a gangsta Caddy lowrider parked outside. Interesting contrast wouldn't you say? Sometimes I feel like see more traditional lowriders here in Japan than I did in California…

This was actually one of a couple GT-R's I spotted when I was walking around. Even in totally stock form, the R35's have a ton of presence and I thought this one looked pretty sleek as it rolled by one of Tokyo's thousands of conbini stores.

I spotted this clean and simple early model Impreza wagon while in Akihabara. Still a very good looking car if I do say so myself. Check out how big the old school WRX decal is on the rear hatch!

I snapped a quick shot of this fixed up Toyota Alphard van outside of Akihabra Station. The wheels look like 18" Weds Bazeria's, which actually look pretty small when compared to the big size of the van. Talk about a cool daily driver with room for a ton of people…

Also in Akihabara, I saw this JZX100 Mark II which was cruising back and forth down the main street in front of all the electronics shops and video arcades. I guess if you want to show off your car, a Sunday afternoon in Akiba is a pretty good time and place to do it. This Mark II has an interesting look going on with the stock body and black-painted roof and front bumper. If you look closely you can see the intercooler behind the front bumper. Whatever exhaust he was running was also loud as hell!
Anyways, let me know if you like this kind of story. If you want to see more, I'll try to take my camera out again and document more cool cars "in the wild".
