My Car Spotlight features from Australia are far from over, as Rod and I seemed to encounter crazy machinery wherever we ended up going. On the Wednesday night, the day before the World Time Attack Challenge practice day, we headed to the Eastern Creek drag strip to check out the regular mid-week drag event. We got the tip from Rocky over at Pac Performance who mentioned there is always a pretty large turnout. With rain on the forecast and a trade show taking up most of the paddock however not a lot of people ended up showing up, but we did have a good time checking out the 30-40 cars that were there for a bit of action.

Which is where we spotted this rather special Datsun 510 sedan. After seeing it shoot down the drag strip at a barely believable speed we just had to get a closer look.

Turns out it was the car's first outing since the owner finished working on it. He recently bought it from an elderly woman, who had obviously maintained it rather well…

…and ended up doing a few modifications to it…

…like dropping a tuned SR20DET into the engine bay! This explained all!

Unfortunately the savage power of the SR ended up snapping the stock drive shafts on the car's second run, ending the fun for the night.

It was all stock in the interior aside from the chunky steering wheel.

I'm sure the owner will be back with to the strip in due course after he gets the car fixed up again.
