There were some pretty exciting reveals at last week’s Los Angeles Auto Show including the forthcoming Shelby GT350 Mustang and brand new Volkswagen Golf R Wagon. The other big news that came out of the LA Convention Center is the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V.
As the latest and perhaps most impressive addition to Cadillac’s line of high performance V-series models, the ATS-V is aimed right at the heart of Europe’s top performance sedans, and it seems to have all the goods to be a worthy competitor.
Like the BMW M3 and M4, the ATS-V is powered by a twin turbocharged six cylinder engine – or more specifically a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 455hp and 445lb/ft. Transmission choices are an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed stick with rev-matching and launch control. It all adds up to a machine that will hit 60 in 3.9 seconds and top out at 185mph.
As expected, the ATS-V features a number of chassis and suspension improvements, including magnetic ride control, additional bracing, an electronic limited slip differential and large Brembo brakes. There’s also 18-inch wheels wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
The exterior receives a number of changes from the standard ATS, including wider fenders, unique front and rear fascias and a vented carbon fiber hood that gives the ATS-V an especially aggressive look.
Inside, the cabin features all of the comfort and tech you’d expect from a modern Cadillac, with the big highlight being a pair of 16-way adjustable power Recaro seats. A performance data recorder is also available.
Like the standard ATS, the ATS-V will be available in both two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles with deliveries to begin next spring.
All in all, this is just another sign that we are truly living in a golden era of performance.
