For owners and fans of Toyota’s iconic AE86, August the 6th is a special day. We’ve covered ’86 Day’ festivities on Speedhunters.com before, and in keeping with tradition we’ve got a few Hachiroku stories coming up for you today – 8/6/2015.
To kick things off, we thought we’d take a look back at five classic AE86 video clips. Of course, there are many more online, and we invite you to share your favorites in the comments section at the bottom of the page. First up though, it’s legendary AE86 drifter, Katsuhiro Ueo…
The quality of this in-car clip isn’t great – GoPros hadn’t been invented yet – but Ueo’s manji skills are nothing short of mesmerizing.
Next up it’s old school race footage from the 1985 All Japan Fuji 1000km Race at FSW. The TRD N2 AE86 based class provided some intense racing during the mid-’80s, and this video sums it up nicely.
Many hardcore drifting fans look back at the D1 Grand Prix of the early ’00s as the golden years of the sport, and one of the cars that defined this era was Hiroshi Takahashi’s Running Free Trueno, as showcased in this Video Option clip.
Of course, we couldn’t assemble a bunch of AE86 videos without including at least one featuring Keiichi Tsuchiya driving his personal car on a closed mountain road, and this Hot Version Touge 200 snippet shows why.
Let’s wrap things up with another old but gold clip – that AE86 360-degree spin video.
So that’s our pick of five Hachiroku classics, now let’s see yours…
