It’s that time of the week again where we share some of our favorite stories from around the net in the past seven days. We’ve got an all-video line-up for you today, and kicking things off is another neat short film from the guys at Petrolicious…
Living The 86 Life
If you read Antonio Alvendia’s recent 86FEST Project 86 build introduction story, you’ll know just how crazy he is for Toyota’s lightweight rear-wheel drive sports coupe from the ’80s. In that post, Antonio (one of Speedhunters’ founding contributors) talked mostly about the plans for his latest Hachiroku build, but in the clip above Petrolicious checks out the Southern Californian’s pair of Trueno-converted GT-S street cars.
The Drive
Over the past couple of weeks we’ve brought you a bunch of stories from Monterey Car Week 2015. Apart from the prestigious car shows and high-end auctions, one of our favorite aspects of the greater annual event is the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. If there was ever a video clip that showed why, then this race footage of Bruce Canepa charging from last to first position in a Rolex Race 4A (1973-1981 FIA, IMSA GT – GTX – AAGT – GTU) class race from behind the wheel of his 1979 Porsche 935 is probably it.
1973 Mazda RX-3 Restomod
Next up it’s a Mazda RX-3 featured on Jay Leno’s Garage. The 1973 coupe’s owner of 15 years, Savant Young, can be credited with a lot of the work that went into this car, and the almost-complete result shines through in what is a unique restomod. With its 13B turbo base, the lightweight RX-3 is not short on power, and coupled with Lamborghini Grigio Telesto paint offset by black detailing, the word tough springs to mind.
Fahren In Reinster Form
Our second Porsche-related clip this week is short but very sweet. Featuring German race car driver and television presenter Tim Schrick and the Lightspeed Classic that Alok drove last year, if this clip doesn’t leave you longing for a modified air-cooled Porsche, we’re not sure what will!
How A 700bhp Evo Saved My Life
When Jon Livermore was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 32, finishing his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR project became a top priority. In the video above, Jon tells the story of how his friends came together to help him build his 700hp dream machine, and how important that turned out to be while he was undergoing his cancer treatment. It’s a great way to wrap things up this week!
