On top of some big feature car stories, with this weekend’s running of the annual Japanese Classic Car Show (JCCS) in Long Beach, California, and the R’s Meeting at Fuji Speedway in Japan, we’ve got a busy week coming up on Speedhunters.com. Before we jump straight into that though, it’s time to take a quick look at some of our favourite video finds of the past week or so.
Kicking things off is a new short film from Petrolicious…
It may not hold the same cult status as some ’70s-era Japanese performance cars, but there’s a lot to love about the Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO. In this episode, Petrolicious meets Matt De Mangos and his stunning ‘Gran Turismo Omologato Grand Sport Racer’ – aka GTO GS-R – a JDM import that he spent eight years fastidiously restoring.
Next up we have a new clip from motorcycle accessory maker ICON. It’s been a couple of years since its last ‘bike vs. car drift battle’, but Drift 4K – which features a couple of very cool Mustangs and a crazy storyline – may have just been worth the wait.
As anyone who’s followed Mad Mike Whiddett’s career thus far will know, his driving skills extend further than just sliding around in crazy rotary-powered Mazdas. Over the weekend, the Kiwi got to put his talent to a new test when he took part in Round 13 of the Stadium Super Trucks (SST) championship held at the Sand Sports Super Show in Costa Mesa, California. Check out this POV video of Mike tearing up the course in one of Robby Gordon’s insane machines, at an event he placed third in his heat and fourth overall in the main event.
From present day to the future and a look inside Porsche’s new Mission E – a concept study that marries full electric underpinnings with a hardcore performance mindset to envisage the German automaker’s four-seater sportscar of tomorrow. After you’ve watched the clip you can find out more about the Mission E here.
Rounding out this week’s video finds is a follow-up to Drift All Stars’ awesome From Riga With Love. The new short film, License To Drift, puts another fresh spin on official drift event coverage (in this case the 5th round of the 2015 Drift All Stars championship held in Lithuania) by again adding some action movie flavour into the mix. Check it out above!
