Once again it’s time to take a quick look at some of our favorite video clips from around the net that came to our attention over the past week.
Let’s kick things off with a short introduction film to a new limited edition McLaren Special Operations machine…
2016 marks 50 years since the beginning of the Can-Am (Canadian-American Challenge Cup) sports car racing series, and given its success in the early years, McLaren is paying homage with special version of the 650S. Just 50 examples of the McLaren 650S Can-Am will be produced by the automaker’s Special Operations (MSO) division; the 1966 McLaren M1B providing the inspiration for its styling cues.
Next up we have drag race of sorts between a couple of Australian V8 icons and a Tesla Model S P85D. The point of the exercise was to show just how quick the all-electric Tesla is when compared to a 507kW (680hp) Walkinshaw Performance W507 HSV GTS, and then a full-blown V8 Supercar race machine which has the ability to go 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds. Sure, the two Aussie brutes are at a disadvantage being rear-wheel drive and having to launch on a cold track, but it’s an interesting watch all the same.
Sometimes it’s better to let raw imagery and sound do the talking, and that’s exactly what this new clip from Ford Performance is all about. Its title: Fifty Seconds of the Ford GT on track at Daytona, pretty much sums it up.
The next video features Speedhunters’ friend Fredrik Sørlie, but this time he’s not at the wheel of his Underground Garage Cressida doing crazy things in the snow. The simple footage captures Fredrik at work, driving for his employer, Moviebird Norway. The project: shooting a Hyundai commercial in a Finland forest with World Rally Championship driver Dani Sordo in his Hyundai i20 WRC. The Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG Fredrik is driving is fitted with a Russian Arm, and during the high-speed shoot on a very narrow gravel road it was loaded up with six people, taking the total weight to around 3,500kg (7,716lb). We can’t wait to see the finished commercial!
Finally this week we have the second episode in Ford’s Focus RS: Rebirth of an Icon video series. This time it’s all about design and development, including the crash test procedures the new car (due spring 2016) has had to go through.
